SMART Program

The SMART Program is a pre-accredited, ACFE funded course that provides a range of hands-on learning experiences and skills in the four key vocational areas of Science, Food, Sport and Design. These four key vocational areas will apply to everyday living and provide opportunities and pathways for exploration through further study or supported employment. 

  • This course is delivered at Avenue Neighbourhood House @ Eley.
  • Classes are held on Tuesdays during school terms.
  • Class times 10:00am - 2:30pm.

The course structure will be:

Term 1

Science SMART (45 Hours)

This component will give participants a sound understanding of basic propagation systems, ethical planting, different climates, local farming and the local environment. It also includes learning about farmed animals and domestic animals as well as animal welfare and local and state lows.

Term 2

Food SMART (36 Hours)

This component will focus on global food and its preparation to provide participants with a sound understanding of food traditions, cultural eating and traditions..

Term 3

Sport SMART (45 Hours)

This component offers basic familiarisation about health and fitness. It will provide students with on insight into the physical and social benefits of sport, sports injuries and body repair/rehabilitation.

Term 4

Design SMART (45 Hours)

This component introduces students to urban design, including different housing types, infrastructure needs and environmental considerations for new buildings.

Course Fees*

*ACFE Funded places can only be offered to learners who are Australian citizens or hold permanent residency. Proof of citizenship eligibility is required upon enrolment.

The 2023 course fee is $290 ($120 tuition fee, $170 amenities fee).

As the SMART program is pre-accredited students may be eligible for NDIS funding and payment of fees can be made through your NDIS self-managed Plan or NDIS Plan Manager.

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.
