Our History

Avenue Neighbourhood House had its origins in 1982, spurred by Christine Fensham's vision for a community centre in Blackburn. Initially, it operated as an extension of the Avenue Uniting Church, with support from a dedicated group of women. In 1984, it gained independent legal status.

The House thrived in Blackburn until October 2007 when its lease expired. The City of Whitehorse then generously provided an opportunity for relocation to the Eley Park Community Centre. Supported by both State and Federal Governments, the City of Whitehorse funded significant renovations at Eley Park to accommodate the diverse programs offered by Avenue Neighbourhood House.
